I have tracked down a Sisly Hargadon and Thomas Hanen with the baptisms of at least 4 children in the 1830's in Annaghdown parish records. My Thomas HANNAN went to NZ and first shows up at aged 28 marrying Hannah Kearney. His death certificate has his parents as Thomas Hannan and Cicilia no last name. I looked in Annaghdown as his wife's will states he was from Dumgriffen, Galway, which is in the parish of Annaghdown. Named as executor of said will, was a Martin STANTON. This isn't a name I knew of as part of my family so wondered why she would choose him as executor??
In an 1868 newspaper article in NZ, called "An Irish Wish List", they have names of settlers nominating family and friends in Ireland for the assisted immigration scheme. A STAUNTON nominated Michael Hannan, of Dumgriffen, stating he was a family member. Also in the parish records, I found Mathew Stanton and Judy Hanen with the baptisms of their children, so it may be that Martin STANTON was a cousin of my Thomas, and perhaps Michael his brother?
It seems Hanen is a spelling variation of Hannan.
