- Hargadon Conenction:
- My great grandfather, Michael David Hargadon ("Mike"), was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and immigrated to the United States. He and his wife, Catherine Mary Young ("Katie"), lived in Crockett, California, where my grandfather, Francis Joseph Hargadon ("Frank" or "Frannie) was born.
Mike and Katie had four sons, James Michael, Francis Joseph, John Luther and Bernard Thomas. All are deceased.
Michael David's parents, Bernard Hargadon and Helen (Ellen) Kilbride, both were born in Ireland in around 1861. They were married on January 14, 1880 in Sligo, Collooney, Ireland, and they had 11 children, Catherine (born & died in Ireland), John (born in Ireland), Patrick, Michael David (My GGF), Mary Ann, Bernard, Margaret, Francis, James, Joseph and Helen. Patrick and remaining children were all born in Scotland.
My information is that Bernard's parents were James Hargadon and Ann McGhee and that Helen (Ellen)'s parents were Michael Kilbride and Margaret (maiden name unknown). My GGF's information indicates that his mother's name was Helen; other researchers use the name Ellen. Some of the records I have indicate Helen and some indicate Ellen or Ellin, but remaining information matches. I think Helen and Ellen are the same person. My theory is that Bernard could not read or write (used X as 'his mark" on the records I have), so the spelling was left to the registrar's discretion.
Other researchers have told me that they have never heard of Catherine, Bernard and Helen (Ellen)'s oldest daughter; however, she is mentioned in my GGF's obituary, as Miss Catherine Hargadon of Ireland.
